Eden London – Looking East
The time is right to start a new work focusing on young people in the Plaistow area and we are looking for an Eden Team to work with local church Plaistow Christian Fellowship (PCF) in Newham, a fast changing borough, in East London.
The area has a long history of poverty and deprivation and the majority of the borough is characterised by overcrowding and unemployment. But there are signs of economic regeneration, with Stratford International station on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, London City Airport and the new Westfield Stratford shopping centre nearby. And, above all, the Olympic Games are putting the area on the map, with the Olympic Stadium a striking new landmark.
Eden Plaistow is in partnership with Plaistow Christian Fellowship (PCF), a non denominational evangelical church planted by a mission team in 1979. PCF is a community focused church convinced that they have an important future ministry in the area. Though small in number, the church makes an impact in the area, and wants to have a greater one – particularly as the Olympic Games arrives in nearby Stratford next summer. The church runs a community coffee shop, Cornerstone, which opens three days per week, hosts a number of evening activities and which is used to reach out to the local community. PCF is in partnership with other local churches, including a Baptist church, a URC church and another independent church, who work closely together in the area. They are also linked to the wider “Transform Newham” fellowship of local evangelical churches.
Take some time to look at the Plaistow team page and Team Leader job description.
We also have one or two spaces left at Eden Bow if you have a heart for the East End.
