Fir Vale, Sheffield

Situated just a few miles from the centre of Sheffield, Fir Vale is a vibrant place made up of many cultures, ages and backgrounds. With a mix of schools, shops, churches and mosques there is a lot going on in Firvale!

We are passionate about celebrating all the great things about the area we live in, blessing the people who live here with us and supporting other organisations and people working for the good of the community.

At the same time, we want to demonstrate to people a faith that is exciting, relevant and accessible and through our words and actions help people to meet Jesus for themselves and understand the value of themselves and others.

Ben and Beth Baker (right) moved to start Eden Fir Vale at the beginning of September 2011 and have been busy with their team, now seven in total, meeting neighbours and learning from their community. Baking cakes with the neighbours, kicking a ball around in the street, taking Urdu lessons and simply saying hi to people whilst they are out and about, are just some of the everyday ways they have been getting involved with the community.

The team is currently involved in weekly activities including lesson support, street-based youth work and working to establish an after-school CU as well as stand-alone events such as community litter picks and city-wide youth initiatives.

Lead by Nick Haigh, the partnering church for this Eden Project is Community Church, one of the group of six churches that makes up St Thomas Crookes. Situated just a few miles from Fir Vale, St Thomas Crookes is a vibrant, growing church with a vision and passion to see communities flourish.  Watch this inspiring endorsement of Eden Network, from leader of St Thomas Crookes, Mick Woodhead (two minutes).
