Eden Network

Transforming communities from the inside out

Fir Vale, Sheffield

Situated just a few miles from the centre of Sheffield, Fir Vale is a vibrant place made up of many cultures, ages and backgrounds. With a mix of schools, shops, churches and mosques there is a lot going on in Fir Vale!

We are passionate about loving our neighbours and the area we live in, sharing the good news of Jesus and celebrating everything that is great in our community.

Through activities, events and just being available, we prioritise getting to know young people in our area in order to show them love and acceptance, to encourage them to discover a personal faith in Jesus, and to see them fulfil their potential in every aspect of their lives.

Ben and Beth Baker (right) moved to start Eden Fir Vale at the beginning of September 2011. You can read the full story here. Since then the team has grown to 10 members who all live within the team’s 1-mile focus area. Working in the local schools and hospital, attending community meetings and spending time with neighbours are just some of the ways the team gets involved in community life.

Our priority is to connect relationally with the young people in our area and the team are currently involved in weekly activities including football training, a girls craft group, lesson support in the local secondary school, street-based youth work and an after-school group in the community.

From time to time the team will use stand-alone events such as community litter picks, Christmas and Easter celebrations. We also join in with city-wide youth initiatives that bring the community together and give a big boost to the on-going time the team puts in to the area on a daily and weekly basis.

Thomas Crooks-churchWe are partnered with Restore a new missional community in Fir Vale supported by St Thomas Crookes. Situated just a few miles from Fir Vale, St Thomas Crookes is a vibrant, growing church with a vision and passion to see the city of Sheffield and beyond transformed as people meet friends, meet God and Live Life Better.

Restore is an exciting new community of people living in the heart of Fir Vale who share the vision of St Thomas Crookes and are passionate and committed to working with Eden to see the local area restored and the news of Jesus shared.
